Disconnect to Reconnect

An AWARE Challenge for you - A Digital Detox

In our fast-paced, tech-savvy world, all the information coming at us on our devices can drain our attention and hinder mindfulness. This week, we'll explore the benefits of a digital detox—a purposeful break from screens to recenter our focus and rejuvenate our minds.

Start by setting clear goals: Determine the duration of your detox, maybe an hour to start, or a day, or wait for it, a full week…yes, you can do it! I believe in you. In addition to the duration, determine the digital tools you wish to limit or eliminate, such as social media, emails (as long as you can fulfill your responsibilities), or gaming.

Create a plan: Identify alternative activities like reading, going for a walk, planning a tech-free date night with someone you love, or meditating to fill the newfound time.

Practice mindfulness: Engage fully with these activities, savoring the present moment without distraction.

Reflect and journal: Document your experiences and the mental shifts you notice throughout the detox week.

The research is clear, technology is changing the way we interact with the world around us. While I’m not going to dig into the research and evidence here, my invitation for you is to become AWARE of how technology might be impacting the way you show up in your life. By intentionally stepping back from digital stimuli, you reclaim your focus, heighten your mindfulness, and foster a deeper connection with yourself and the world around you. Are you ready to disconnect so you can reconnect with the people and things that matter most?
